Walt WhitmanVerified

Whitman's radical collection smashes the boundaries between poetry and everyday speech, celebrating the body, democracy, and the individual with an erotic energy that scandalized his contemporaries and revolutionized American letters. Each edition he revised expanded and reimagined the work, making this fluid, evolving collection a singular achievement.

A collection of essays, memoirs and notes from Whitman's later years. It includes diary-style entries on his time as a volunteer nurse for wounded soldiers in the Civil War, along with writings on nature, his own life and American society.
